Questions

The things doctors ask us most

Still unsure? Our team replies within 24 hours, or book a free 20-minute call and we will answer everything live.

What is the FSP and who needs it?

The Fachsprachprüfung (FSP) is the medical language examination required by German Ärztekammern for international doctors applying for the Approbation or Berufserlaubnis. It tests three clinical scenarios: patient history taking, colleague discussion and written documentation. Every non-native German-speaking doctor needs to pass it.

What German level do I need before starting FSP preparation?

We recommend a solid B2 level as the minimum starting point. If you are not yet at B2, our German Intensive Course (20 units/week) brings you to the required level first. We assess your level during the free placement test.

How is the Kenntnisprüfung different from the FSP?

The Kenntnisprüfung is a subject-knowledge examination in medicine, required for non-EU doctors whose qualification is not fully recognised. The FSP tests German language ability in clinical situations; the Kenntnisprüfung tests medical knowledge across specialties — in German. We help you identify which applies to you.

Where are courses held — online or in person?

Both. We offer in-person classes at our Berlin campus (Pappelallee 32A) and fully online courses via Zoom. Many programs also offer a hybrid option, so you can choose the format that suits your life.

Does Medlingua issue official exam certificates?

We are an official telc examination centre, so you can prepare and sit your telc exam on-site with us. For TestDaF and DSH we provide preparation and connect you to the nearest registered centre. The official certificate is always issued by the examining body.

Are there any registration fees?

Most courses have a one-time registration fee of €60, which covers enrolment administration and your placement assessment. The full breakdown is shown on each course page.
